Cold Forming of a Steel Socket for the Automotive Industry

Steel Socket The item shown here was manufactured for an automotive customer in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Designed for use within an internal combustion engine for the automotive industry, they required the manufacturing of 300,000 of these parts per year. The supplied drawing called out for the use of 1018 steel, with a natural finish. The part was cold formed on our five die, six station multi blow progressive cold header to dimensions of .569" in length, with an outside diameter of .622". A secondary process required the drilling of two holes.
All of the parts where subject to rigorous quality control to maintain the tolerances of ±.001", flatness of .002", circular runout of .002", and circularity of .001". For more information on this project, see the table below or contact us directly.
